Hey All!

Of course, I get Ballereene (the horse that has been the topic of three year old's in training) back at her original barn and after a week she develops a swollen fetlock. No cause from the care of this barn at all, just bad luck. I think it may have been caused by a little rain rot right above her hoof. Soaking with cold water, washing with Betadine, then putting some special antibiotic given to me by my vet for a different horse that had that rain rot....then wrapping!! Any other advice or has anyone ever dealt with this before? She is not "off" at all....

Hmm. No advice here. At least she's not off though. Maybe you could just call the vets office and see what they think.

How is she doing now? What are you wrapping with?

For me if it hasn't gone away by now I'd call the vet.

If it shows up on more legs in the future you may want to cosider a reaction to something in her environment, especially if she is not lame and just swollen.

I have a friend in Minnesota whose horse had its legs swell up from toxic clover.

Here's a link about plants in your area:

I sure hope she's better by now though!

She was fine but now it swelled just at the fetlock not up the leg, more of that rain rot on her pastern...I Betadine'd it again tonight with some more lotion, didnt wrap...just don't understand how this is getting worse since the weather has been dry and I groom her daily, clean stall...vet will be called. She may need some different lotion applied to that leg. It may be some weed out in the pasture, she is in grass....not off at all, tracking up fine and seems happy as can be!

How's her leg doing now? I gave her a pet on the nose when I was out at the barn tonight. She is so darn sweet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

When she is wrapped she is fine...but when she gets out in the field without the wrap it gets a little swollen...may need to put her in a dry lot and see how that goes...she' perfectly fine! I dont get it...

It was a case of infected scratches. She had to go on antibiotics and special cream. Had to be wrapped for almost three weeks. She's fine now!! Clipped her leg also(it tends to happen on the white legs)
